 Early Detection Saves Lives!

Texas Instruments cares about your health and the health of your family. It is important to understand what you can do to prevent disease. The key is a healthy, balanced lifestyle that includes:

  • Smoking cessation
  • Maintaining ideal body weight
  • A diet low in saturated fats and high in natural sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber
  • Modest amounts of alcohol
  • Regular exercise

These combined behaviors, will help to lower your risk of developing cancer, high blood pressure and other diseases.

Cancer-related diseases are increasing at an alarming rate and even though you cannot prevent all cases of cancer, effective early detection strategies exist for many of the common types of cancer. The goal is to detect cases while in an early (or even pre-cancerous) stage when treatment can result in a long-term cure.

Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO coverage
The Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO provides extensive coverage to help participants detect problems early and take an active role in maintaining good health. Early detection examinations and tests can help save lives and reduce suffering from cancers of the breast, colon, rectum, cervix, prostate, testes (testicles), oral cavity (mouth) and skin.

The Covered Preventive Screening Menu by Age/Gender, located on the left, can help you determine recommended screening tests and exams covered by the Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Coverage under the Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO is 100 percent of reasonable and customary charges, with no copay or deductible. Eligible participants include covered employees, spouses, dependents, and retirees on the Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Appointments may be made with a network physician any time during the year. Many HMO's offer preventive health coverage. Contact your HMO regarding preventive health exams and screening tests covered by your plan.

Preventive health screenings
For TIer's convenience, preventive health screenings are offered at most Texas TI locations at various times during the year. For information regarding these screenings, click on the specific screening to the left under on-site screenings.

TIers who are not covered by the Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO may still participate in on-site screenings, if offered, but must pay at the time of screening and file for reimbursement with their appropriate HMO.

Baylor Occupational & Family Health Center
For those in the Dallas area, the Baylor Occupational & Family Health Center at Texas Instruments is also available for various screenings and tests. Some of their services include male health screenings, well-woman exams, and flu immunizations. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 972-671-9504.

Reminder: The Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO covers ONE preventive office visit per year for adults. If you choose to have the various parts of these screenings performed during separate visits, be aware that although the separate screenings charges may be covered, only ONE preventive office visit charge will be covered annually. To avoid out-of-pocket expenses, schedule all preventive exams and tests during the same office visit each year.
