 Recommended Screenings for Women Ages 50 and Older

The Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO covers the following annually:

Annual preventive health office visit includes:
   
  • Height and Weight Check
  •    
  • Blood Pressure Check - annually
  •    
  • Cancer Screening Exams (visual and palpation)
  •      
    - Oral, skin and breast
         
    - Digital Rectal
      Stool Blood Test 
      Lipid Panel (includes HDL/LDL) - annually
      Fasting Glucose - annually
      Papanicolaou (Pap) Test 
       
  • this includes cancer screening of vagina and cervix (visual and palpation)
  •   Screening Mammogram - annually
      Endometrial Biopsy - ONCE ONLY at menopause, if needed
      Flexible Sigmoidoscopy - once every 5 years
      OR
      Colonoscopy - *once every 10 years
      Electrocardiogram - once in lifetime
      Urinalysis - annually  

    All of these screenings are part of the Preventive Health Model for Healthy Adults.
    Many HMO's offer preventive health coverage. Contact your HMO regarding preventive health exams and screening tests covered by your plan.

    * Note: Not paid as screening when performed following sigmoidoscopy screening.
