Male Health Screenings

Heart disease and cancer of the prostate and colon are major health risks for men. TIers are urged to use the preventive benefits available through their health plans. In the past, TI has directed males to identified providers in Dallas, Sherman, Stafford and Tucson. Going forward, we have removed any barriers this process may have created, and are encouraging you to see your private physician to obtain a preventive health screening. If you want to continue to see physicians you have used in the past, you should contact them directly to make sure that they are participating in your health plan network and make your appointment.

Risk Factors for Men

Early death from some diseases can be prevented. You can take responsibility for your own health by learning simple skills and making positive changes through lifestyle and disease prevention, self-examination and preventive screening. Heart disease and cancer of the prostate and colon are major health risks for men. Self-exams and regular medical checkups are the best methods for early detection and treatment.

You and Your Doctor

Taking responsibility for your healthcare doesn't mean doing it alone. It means developing a partnership with your healthcare providers. To get the most out of your next visit to the doctor, use this checklist:

  • Print the list of covered preventive screenings for your age group, which can be accessed from the links at the left, and take it with you to your next appointment to let your doctor know what your health plan covers.
  • Bring a list of questions you want to ask.
  • Keep a written record of any symptoms you have experienced. When did the problem begin? Be able to describe the symptoms clearly.
  • Bring along any medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements.
  • Take notes during your session with the doctor. Ask questions to ensure that you understand any unfamiliar terms and any recommended treatment or course of action.

Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Coverage

The Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan provides extensive coverage for preventive health examinations and tests, and male participants in the plan (including employees, spouses and retirees) are encouraged to take advantage of this important benefit.

Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Coverage

If you are an HMO participant, contact your HMO to understand the coverage you have available through your plan.
