Each TIAA member is invited to participate and may bring one guest at the member price. Others may join us at the nonmember price. Register for events by contacting the TIAA office at admin@tialumni.org or 214-567-8444. Payment (by check only) is due seven days prior to event to reserve your place on the bus. Meadows Museum Tour, Dallas, Thursday, Sept. 22 – A docent will explain the finest collection of Spanish art in the USA plus we will view six masterpieces by Ribera including the newest loan from the Prado’s collection. A special selection of noteworthy sculptures from the Buddhist cave temples of Xiangtangshan is also on display. The viewing of these religious images is accompanied by a three-dimensional “digital cave”. We meet at the Texins Activity Center at 4:15 p.m., have a one-hour guided tour of the museum (which is handicapped-accessible) at 5 p.m., eat at Peggy Sue’s BBQ in Snider Plaza and return around 8 p.m. Cost is $8 for members and $9 for non-members.

Tyler Rose Festival, Tyler, Thursday, Oct. 13 – Ride in comfort and smell the roses with us. Meet at the Texins Activity Center at 9:45 a.m. to board a luxury bus to ride to Tyler and enjoy lunch at our own expense at Ricks on the Square in Tyler. Then experience the beauty and unbelievable aroma of thousands of roses growing in manicured beds at the Rose Garden. After attending the Queen’s Tea at 3 p.m. and viewing the Queen’s Court in their fabulous costumes, we’ll return to Texins about 6 p.m. Price is $20 for members and $22 for nonmembers.

Tour Botanical Gardens/BRIT, Ft. Worth, Monday, Oct. 25 – Jump on the bus at the Texins Activity Center at 8:45 a.m. to take a guided tour of the beautiful Botanical Gardens led by Dr. Dottie Woodson. This is the oldest botanic garden in Texas, a 109-acre living museum displaying over 2,500 species of native and exotic plants. Then we’ll eat at La Familia on our own followed by a docent-led tour of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) headquarters at 1:30 p.m. BRIT just opened a new world-class home, where being green is real and every square inch informs and inspires -- right up to the spectacular living roof. Tour the new herbarium filled with a million plants. This building is a marvel of sustainable practices – visit this world to discover your world. We will return around 4 p.m. Cost is $12 for members and $14 for nonmembers.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, Athens, Wednesday, Nov. 2 – Hop a luxury bus to visit this 107-acre site with over 300,000 gallons of indoor/outdoor aquariums displaying fish, waterfowl, alligators and amphibians. Meet at the Texins Activity Center at 8:45 a.m., enjoy the dive show at 11 followed by a tram tour of the outside hatchery. Then eat at Lake Athens Marina at our own expense and return about 3 p.m. Price is $20 for members and $22 for nonmembers which includes center admission.

Homestead Heritage Village Fair, Elm Mott, Saturday, Nov. 26 – Join us on a luxury bus to visit the Homestead Fair. This exposition of fine crafts and heirloom skills is a fun and educational festival with activities for the entire family. Take a self-guided walking tour of traditional craft workshops and a working homestead. Help milk a cow, lend a hand at the old-fashioned timber frame barn raising or watch a master craftsman fashion a fine Windsor chair straight from a rough log. Watch a sheepdog work, pottery making, blacksmithing, woodworking, quilting, weaving, spinning, basketry, boot making, cheese making and more. Enjoy lunch (on our own) at the Cafe Homestead, which features daily specials, smoked barbecued brisket, deli-style sandwiches, pies and real homemade ice cream. Take home a loaf of delicious, homemade, whole grain bread, baked daily, or try the wood-fired brick oven breads. Meet at Texins Activities Center at 8:15 a.m., arrive at Elm Mott by 10 a.m. and return to TI about 4 p.m. Cost is $20 for members and $22 for non-members.

"A Walk thru Winter Wonderland"Musical, Arlington, Saturday, Dec. 10 – Get in the Christmas spirit at Johnnie High's musical review at the Arlington Music Hall. They have a cast of nine professional singers and an eight-member backup band and perform all types of wholesome music: country, Christian and holiday classics. Meet at Texins Activities Center at 1:15 p.m., attend the show at 3 p.m., eat next door at Babe's Chicken Dinner House (on our own) after the show and then ride around the northwest Arlington subdivision of Interlochen to see their spectacular Christmas lights. Return to TI about 8:30 p.m. Cost is $29 for members and $32 for non-members.
