Annual Membership Business Meeting

TIAA Plans Annual Meeting at Meyerson

The TI Alumni Association will hold its tenth annual membership meeting Monday, May 11, in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown Dallas.

Opened in 1989, the Meyerson is a landmark on the Dallas skyline. The international press has proclaimed the hall “world-class, rivaling the great concert halls of the world.”

The first impression of this facility is the open space and the touches of elegance that are evident everywhere. The building—an architectural jewel—features unsurpassed acoustics.

TIAA members can enjoy a free recital by Mary Preston, resident organist, on the Lay Family concert organ in the concert hall at 12:30 p.m. and then tour the fabulous building. Those who wish to take the tour can meet in the lobby at 1 p.m. after the concert.

Refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the Horchow Hall. Attendees may renew their membership or join TIAA at the meeting.

RSVP Deadline May 1

Max Post, TIAA Activities vice president, said invitations are being sent to TIAA members. Make reservations by May 1 by calling 214-567-8444 (press 2). When calling, indicate if you plan to ride the bus so adequate seating will be available.

What's on the Agenda

The meeting's primary purpose is to elect TIAA officers for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Max Post, nominating committee chairman, announced that all current elected officers agreed to serve another one-year term. They are: Ronnie Brandenburg, president; Tom Boedecker, executive vice president; Ellen McKee, secretary; and Larry James, treasurer. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. Janelle Richards and Jon Jackson served with Max on the nominating committee.

Also on the agenda is approval of the revised TIAA Constitution and Bylaws. Click here to view both the proposed (May 2009) and current (May 2004) versions.

Ronnie Brandenburg will give an overview on TIAA. Veletta Forsythe Lill, Dallas Arts District executive director, will tell about the progress of the Central Arts District. She has been active in Dallas civic affairs and the arts since 1985 and served eight years on the Dallas City Council.

Getting There

The Meyerson Symphony Center is located in the Arts District of Dallas at the intersection of Pearl and Flora Streets. The street address is 2301 Flora St. Dallas, TX 75201.

TIAA will offer roundtrip bus transportation from the Texins Activity Center on the TI Expressway site to take members to the event. The bus ride will cost $5/person.

Members can take DART light rail trains to the Pearl station (about three blocks from the Meyerson). Riders age 65+ can buy a day pass for $1.50. For information on using DART, see www.DART.org.

For members traveling by car, parking will be available in the Dallas Arts District Garage at two levels below grade. Enter the main entrance off Pearl St., or the service road of Woodall Rodgers, or the Ross Ave. entrance. Just follow the parking signs in the garage to those set aside for the Meyerson. See www.dallassymphony.com/Directions_Parking.aspx.

Thanks to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for validating the parking tickets for complimentary parking. TIAA members must bring the ticket they get upon entry to the meeting so the ticket can be stamped at the meeting in order to get free parking.
