Alumni
Groups
An expanded list of TI alumni groups is now
available online at www.tialumni.org/groups/ and published quarterly
in the TI Alumni News. This list includes a dozen greater-Dallas
groups, four groups that meet outside the Dallas area, and three that
"meet" in cyberspace. Most groups meet monthly, but the frequency
ranges from every other week to once a year. To add to this list,
contact groups@tialumni.org.
Reminder – Aug. 7 Art Show and
Open House
You and your family are invited to attend the On
My Own Time (OMOT) Art Exhibit and Open House at the Dallas Texins
Activity Center (Expressway Site) on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 2 to 5
p.m. Enjoy the art on display from active TIers and retirees, and
cast your vote for the
"People’s Choice" Award. As a bonus, the facilities
of Texins will be available for guests and their families to use
throughout the day at no charge. Come early and try out the fitness
equipment, indoor and outdoor tracks, swimming pool and other
facilities available at Texins. Refreshments will be available
during the open house and there will be drawings for door prizes.
Enter at Gate #6 on TI Boulevard and turn right at the first stop
sign. Parking is available adjacent to the Texins Activity Center.
Registration is not required.
TI Art Club
The TI Art Club
meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. in the
Expressway Site Texins Activity Center - usually in CR 6. Members
work in their media of choice. The instructor for the course is a
professional artist, Janice Hamilton, who critiques the work and
offers instruction to the class. The fee is very modest. For more
information, contact Griselda Hermosillo at
gris@ti.com or
214-567-6707.
Health Care Reform
TI has
issued a Connection newsletter
about the recent health care reform. It contains a timeline of when
the various changes will take place - some beginning this year and
others stretching out until 2020.
TI Jazz
Band
On Friday, Aug.13, at 8 p.m., the TI Jazz Band will perform
their first concert at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC)
court in the old Collin County Courthouse. In 2006, McKinney
renovated the 134-year-old courthouse into a performing arts center.
It's located in the heart of the downtown McKinney square at 111 N.
Tennessee Street. The concert will take place in the 440-seat
Courtroom Theater.
Tickets are $10 and are available online.

TIAA Q&As
Q: How can I locate former TIers
living near me? A: There
are several ways you can find this information from our website. (The website lists only that information permitted by the former
TIer. Please remember this is personal data and do not use it for
solicitations, etc.)
- Click "Member
Services" menu item Search
for members at the
top of the screen. (This page is accessible to members only;
active
login is required.)
- In the Search
Information area,
to find ex-TIers that
live in your Zip Code, enter the code in the Zip Code box. If
you want to search for a certain city, enter the city and state
in the City & State boxes. If you want to search an entire
state, enter the two-digit state code in the State box.
- Press Enter.
If you have a question about TIAA or our
website that would be appropriate in this newsletter, please send it
to communications@tialumni.org.
Community Involvement
Events
Greet the Troops at DFW Airport
- Thursday, Aug. 19,
7 a.m.-12 noon. Join TIAA members to honor and thank military
personnel who pass through DFW Airport on their way to visit
families for much-needed R&R. Volunteer greeters will meet at Texins
Activity Center at 7 a.m., ride a TI-supplied bus to DFW to meet the
troops, and purchase their own lunch on the way back to Texins.
Bea’s Kids Back to School Party
- Friday, Aug. 20, 4-6 p.m.
Build excitement for the new school year by distributing backpacks
and school supplies to Bea's Kids at an apartment complex.
Volunteers will serve food and give each child a backpack with
school supplies. Watch their faces light up as they try on their new
backpacks and smell their new crayons.
For more information on
community involvement events, go to
www.tialumni.org/CIT/. To
register, contact the TIAA office at admin@tialumni.org or

August TIAA Travel Event
American Airlines
Center Tour - Tuesday, Aug. 24 (Note date change.) – Catch a TI bus
to Victory Park in downtown Dallas and tour the American Airlines
Center with us. The tour will offer an educational and interactive
experience and take us behind the scenes and give an insider's view
of the inner workings of this fast-paced industry. We will begin in
the bowl where little known facts are revealed such as building
logistics and event conversion. Then it's off to the event level,
where the magic begins. We will visit the press box, a luxury suite,
party rooms, as well as other facilities in the building and – if
scheduling permits – a team locker room. We will leave the Texins
Activity Center at 9:45 a.m., join the 10:30 a.m. tour, go to lunch
at House of Blues at our own expense, and return to Texins about 2
p.m. Cost of $10 per member and $11per nonmember includes entry fee.
Because tours are subject to the AAC event schedule, the date for
this tour had to be changed from our earlier announcements. Please
register by August 17.
Contact Jessica Stewart at
admin@tialumni.org or 214-567-8444 to register. Each TIAA member is
invited to participate and may bring one guest at the member price.
Others may join us at the nonmember price. Payment is due seven days
prior to event to reserve your place on the bus. Make check payable
to TIAA and mail to TIAA, PO Box 740181, Dallas, TX 75374.
